The imaging centers offer both 2D and 3D mammography, as well as breast MRIs and breast ultrasounds. 100% of the cost for screening is covered by most health insurances, Medicare and Medicaid. Staffed by certified breast radiologists and mammography technologists, we take pride in guiding patients in the pursuit of breast health.
If you are 40 or older, it's time to schedule an annual breast exam. Women at high risk should get a mammogram and breast MRI every year, typically starting at the age of 30. According to the American Cancer Society, this includes women who:
- Have a first-degree relative (mother, sister or child) with a BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene mutation.
- Have a lifetime risk of about 20-25% or greater, according to risk assessment tools.
- Have a known mutation based on genetic testing.
- Had radiation therapy to the chest before the age of 30.
- Have Li-Fraumeni, Cowden or Bannayan-Riley-Ruvalcaba syndrome, or have first-degree relatives with one of these syndromes.
If you feel you are at risk for cancer, consult with your primary care physician, who can send a referral for genetic counseling. Our genetics team evaluates personal and family medical histories related to cancer, and can help you understand how genetic testing may or may not be beneficial.
Early detection saves lives, so don't wait to schedule your annual screening!
