High Risk Cancer Program

Some individuals may be at higher risk for the development of cancer based on personal and family risk factors. This knowledge can create uncertainty and distress for many people. Fortunately, the Shaw Cancer Center has a high-risk cancer program that is available to help those who fall into the high-risk category. Our goal is to provide you with specialized support and education to help promote cancer prevention and early detection.

The Shaw Cancer Center’s high risk cancer team consists of oncologists, nurse practitioners, nurse navigators, and a genetic counselor. They provide consultations to discuss the risk of developing cancer(s), place screening orders and provide clinical exams. They can also determine if you qualify for options to reduce your chance to develop cancer through preventative measures, such as medications, and can help determine if there is a genetic risk for cancer in the family.

This program is ideal for any patient that has been identified to be at high-risk for ANY cancer type based on their own health history, family history, positive genetic testing results or other screening factors as well as for patients with a history of breast cancer who are out of treatment but need to establish care for routine surveillance or who had previous surgery for breast cancer.

If you are interested in a consultation with the high-risk cancer program, please contact the team at 970-569-7510.
